Direct Support Professional-Residential Group Homes – Full Time -

Starting Wage Rate $15.00 per hour for daytime hours and $15.00 per hour during sleeping hours on overnight shifts (you get paid even while you’re allowed to sleep on overnight shifts). No experience required, on the job training provided!

Schedule: 40 hours per week, varying schedule may include a combination of days, evenings, weekends, overnights (“sleep” and “awake” hours) and some holidays. Schedule will vary to meet agency and program needs. Please note: this is NOT a Day Shift Only Mon-Fri job and WILL INCLUDE a combination of shifts/days. Some staff prefer to work a “straight 40” and have the rest of the week off while other staff prefer to spread shifts throughout the week. We’ll work with your preference as able, but please note that entry positions typically include some evening, overnight and/or weekend shifts.

Qualifications: Valid driver’s license. Must have a satisfactory three (3) year driving history; previous experience working in Human Services or with individuals with Intellectual disabilities preferred but not required; satisfactory background clearances and 3 year driving record check which will be conducted at time of hire. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Working doesn’t have to feel like work! Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide support and attend to daily needs of Individuals with Disabilities in Residential Group Homes in Wellsboro and Mansfield. These homes are like any other home in the neighborhood but are staffed 24/7 to make sure we are supporting those that reside there. This is a meaningful job where you can make a living while also improving the lives of others!

Becoming a DSP provides excellent real-life experience with populations that require learning skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life. No experience is required to be hired, but upon hire you will receive PAID training and gain skills in becoming First Aid/CPR certified; Medication Management; and Fire Safety; to name just a few.

Further, you will gain knowledge that will benefit you in all aspects of your life, such as enhancing domestic skills while on the job. You can tune in your skills in the kitchen, trying out new recipes and techniques with the individuals in the home (both teaching and learning together!). You can develop plans for more efficient housekeeping techniques, which can help those residing in the group home and perhaps even you in your home. This job is unique in the sense that you carry out many of the same tasks you would in your home, but while supporting and enriching the lives of individuals that reside there. In this casual and relaxed environment staff assist with daily care, household routines, assist with meal planning and prep, development of healthy life skills, provide support, social opportunities, and recreation, all while building a positive rapport.

Every day is a new day and you and the individuals you support build many fun memories together. Through this process staff build special and long-lasting bonds with the individuals served. Some examples might be going out for community events, learning a new skill together, attending a play, going bowling, etc. You actually get paid to go have fun together! Staff help enrich the lives of residents by creating a healthy, engaging, and supportive home environment and community activities that promote inclusion.

You will be a part of a growing and dedicated organization whose mission is to help individuals with disabilities succeed. In the past 25 years Partners In Progress has grown to include 6 Group Homes; a variety of Supported Employment Programs including a Vocational Training Facility; Highland Chocolates Factory and Store; My Neighbor’s Closet Thrift Store; a Janitorial Crew, and various other partnerships with area groups. Many who start as a DSP may stay in their role for many years, but others may advance when opportunities arise whether in the Group Homes or any of the other Agency programs. Advancement Opportunities are advertised internally first. We value our staff and often engage in activities for team-building and morale boosting through raffles, gifts, gatherings, etc throughout the year.

Residential Group Homes are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so staff are needed for a variety of hours. Staff are permitted to sleep during the overnight hours. That’s right, you get paid $15.00/hr, while sleeping!

Job Responsibilities:

Assists Program Participants to attain daily living skills that allow them to become more independent and self-sufficient.
Maintains the physical site in a safe, secure and clean condition.
Completes all shift requirements prior to leaving duty.
Maintains accurate records, goals, documentation, ledgers, receipts and other materials relevant to Program Participants’ progress, health, activities and financial records.
Acts as an advocate for Program Participants; promotes and provides community involvement opportunities for Program Participants when they express interest as identified and authorized in the Program Participants’ ISPs.
Assists in the development of Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Assessments and Quarterly Reviews in cooperation with the Program Participant being served, Lead Staff, Supports Coordinators and Residential Program Specialists.
Reports medical issues immediately. After proper training, administers first aid as necessary. After proper training, administers medications in accordance with Department of Human Services regulations for medication administration.
Safely transports Program Participants or supervises Program Participants during daily transportation when directed.
